Diploma of Computer Science and Entrepreneurship
Diploma in Computer Science and Entrepreneurship makes you eligible for the most demanding and interesting task in private sector or public sector as a junior software developer with better prospects to upgrade in your career to any Computational and Software Engineering courses and positions globally.
Computer Scientists and software developers are needed in diverse industries nowadays where domain knowledge of computer and/or software engineering plus soft skills in entrepreneurship are required.
A ‘Level Certificate or an equivalent is required with a science combination including (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as A Principle Subjects).
Other requirements include: If someone has done a computer science certificate., they can also apply, Females students only are admitted for this course.

Computer Scientists focus on design and development of computer systems, software and other technological application programming interfaces like Websites, Apps on both Android and iOS. Data Scientists focus on the discovery and interpretation of hidden patterns in data for extracting knowledge and insights from data. The ultimate goal of both data scientists and computer scientists is to support decision making, but main emphasis in data science is data whilst main emphasis in computer science is software development and technological systems.
You will acquire skills that will enable you to develop and participate in software development either as an individual or as a team (i.e., website designing and development, mobile apps) to address real world problems, analyse complex real world problems, and to use this insights as a foundation for better decisions to for example improve performance, quality, and workflows. The career opportunities are multiple and in a world where digitization is becoming increasingly important there is need for females candidates with domain knowledge in computer science and data skills. Many companies, including all major firms in consulting, oil, service companies, research institutions and many of their spin-off companies seek these competences.
The program includes topics in data science, machine learning, website development and designing, graphics designing, mobile android app development. Advanced topics include: Algorithms in machine learning, Website Development and Testing using Flask APIs and Django, REST APIs for Webscraping and Entrepreneurship domain knowledge for African Economies.

Who are we looking for?
The Women Institute of Technology & Innovation (WITI) Diploma in Computer Science and Entrepreneurship Program targets female students who have finished Ugandan Secondary School (UACE) and did Science combination at A ‘level to complete a diploma in Computer Science, and provides help with financing. We are specifically looking to support female students who have limited means and could not otherwise afford to study at mainstream universities in computer science or technology related courses. The goal of the program is in line with the Vision of Women in Technology Uganda (WITU) -“To close the technological gender gap improve lives of women and girls – we want to support female students who want to break barriers in STEM (Science, Technology, and Engineering & Mathematics) careers.
Who is eligible?
You can apply in our 2022/2023 Cohort if you fulfil the following criteria:
- You hold a Ugandan Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) that was issued in 2018 or later in Uganda or an equivalent from East Africa Countries. You must hold the certificate at the time of application and have done mathematics as a principle subject; we cannot wait for the issuance of certificates.
- You are not admitted in any of higher institution of learning or universities in Uganda and East Africa currently.
- You read, write, and speak good English.
- You come from a background of limited means. We will check this during the application process. If you’re unsure if you qualify, we recommend applying regardless.
- You are motivated to work hard to succeed at a young female in STEM and willing to blend yourself with a culture at WITI Institute.
Key dates for the Application Process
Here is our 2022 application process, step by step:
- January 7th, 2022: Application call on website published.
You can now submit your application! We will ask you to fill out a detailed google form asking about your motivation, your educational background, your current living situation and details of your parents, and which of the eligible programs you want to study.
- March 31, 2022: Application deadline.
The application call closes at 12:00pm East African Time (EAT).
- April 8, 2022: Interview invitations.
If we rank your application highly, we will invite you to an in-person or phone/online interview. At this time we may also ask you to submit additional documentation. In particular, we will ask for recommendation letters and (optionally) guarantor letters. And any other information deemed necessary for your application process.
- April 15, 2022: Deadline for recommendation letters and guarantor letters.
The deadline to submit in these letters closes at 12:00 pm East African Time (EAT).
- April 28, 2022: Decision announcement.
This is the big day! We will inform you whether your application was successful. We will also send you details of the commitment fee for the course (non-refundable) share temporary admission we are offering you. We will also let you know if you made the reserve or temporary pending list for further verification, or if we cannot offer you a spot.
- May 31, 2022: Course study starts.
If you were on the reserve or temporary pending admission list and someone else decides not to accept their offer, we may make you an offer by this date.
- June 15, 2022: Deadline to accept reserve offers.
If you received a reserve offer, this is the last day to accept it.
